The 1994 Mazda B2300 truck uses a concentric clutch activator that has taken the place of the external slave cylinder. This actuator is located inside the bellhousing and surrounds the transmission input shaft. It acts similar to a bellows at the base, with a spring and throwout bearing perched in front. As the clutch pedal is depressed, the bellows expands, pushing the throwout bearing forward, against the pressure plate release fingers.

Instructions

    1

Open the hood and check the clutch master cylinder reservoir fluid level. The clutch master cylinder reservoir is located on the drivers side of the brake master cylinder. The reservoir is the small plastic cylinder just below the brake master cylinder power booster. Remove the cap and fill it with brake fluid, as necessary, to bring it up to the "Full" mark.

    2

Raise the front of the truck, using the floor jack, and place jack stands under the frame. Lower the truck down so that it rests on the stands. Roll under the truck and look at the drivers side of the transmission. Notice the hydraulic line running into the bellhousing with a single line coming out next to it: This is the bleeder screw for the actuator. Open the bleeder screw one turn counterclockwise. Allow the bleeder to stay open until the actuator fills with fluid, and a steady small stream of brake fluid can be seen emerging. At this point, close the bleeder screw.

    3

Check and fill the clutch master cylinder reservoir, as necessary. Open the actuator bleeder screw and have the helper push the clutch pedal to the floor and hold it there while you close the bleeder screw. Once the bleeder screw is closed, no air can be sucked into the system, so it is safe for the helper to allow the pedal to come up. When the helper depresses the pedal with the bleeder screw open, air can be seen emerging together with the fluid, in the form of a squirting, inconsistent flow of fluid. Continue this process until only the fluid is emerging, without any air.

    4

Lower the truck and check the clutch master reservoir one last time and fill, as necessary.
