The 2001 Mercury Villager comes equipped with electric windows. With electric windows, or power windows as they are more commonly referred to, you can operate your windows with a switch instead of a crank lever. If the windows begin malfunctioning, you most likely have an issue with the regulator or the fuse. In either of those situations, replacing the malfunctioning component will solve the issue. The fuse is relatively simple to replace, but the regulator will take some time as it is located within the door itself.

Instructions

    1

Open the Villager's hood. Remove the fuse block cover and remove the fuse labeled "PWR WND" with a fuse extractor. Install a replacement 30A fuse and reattach the cover to the fuse block. If that does not fix the problem, you will need to replace the regulator.

    2

Disconnect the negative cable from the battery using a socket wrench.

    3

Use a flat-head screwdriver to remove the armrest switch panel. Disconnect its electrical wiring connector and remove it from the Villager.

    4

Remove the screw from the door handle and pull the handle off of the door.

    5

Use a flat-head screwdriver or a putty knife to remove all of the clips from the edge of the interior door panel. Remove the door panel from the door.

    6

Peel off the plastic water shield from the door.

    7

Remove the rear glass channel bolt from the window glass channel using a socket wrench, and remove the glass channel. Remove the window retaining nuts and pull the window out of the vehicle.

    8

Disconnect the electrical connector from the window regulator. Disconnect the equalizer arm bracket. Use a drill to remove the regulator retaining rivets.

    9

Remove the regulator from the door and install a replacement. Attach the regulator to the door by installing the bolt-and-nut assemblies that came with the replacement regulator. Reconnect the equalizer arm bracket to the regulator.

    10

Reattach the window and the glass channel and their respective nuts and bolts. Reattach the water shield.

    11

Place the door panel back onto the door and secure it by reinstalling the clips. Reattach the door handle and armrest switch panel. Reconnect the battery and close the hood.
