When the brake lights come on in the Boxster, it should not be ignored because it means a brake sensor has probably gone out. The Boxster, a mid-size sports car manufactured by Porsche, is equipped with anti-lock brake system (ABS). The ABS system is a safety function that prevents the brakes from locking up when they are applied quickly in inclement weather, such as rain or snow. It takes approximately 30 minutes to an hour to replace a brake sensor on the Boxster.
Instructions
- 1
Loosen, but do not remove, the lug nuts of the wheel in which the sensor will be changed. Use a lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts.
2Slide the jack under the car and jack it up. Slide the jack stand underneath it and lower the Boxster on the stand.
3Remove the lug nuts with the lug wrench, pull the Porsches tire off and set it aside.
4Locate the brake sensor mounted on the inner side of the brake assembly. Unplug the plastic wiring harness by hand.
5Remove the retaining nut holding the sensor in place. Set the new sensor in place and tighten the retaining bolt with the socket set. Plug the new sensor into the wiring harness by hand.
6Slide the Boxster's tire back on and tighten the lug nuts with the lug wrench.
7Jack the Porsche up slightly, remove the jack stand and then lower the car to the ground.
