The shifter of your Chrysler 300M is located in the center console of the vehicle, between the two front seats. If you experience problems with your shifter, you may need to take it apart to determine what is wrong. Thankfully, disassembling your 300M shifter is fairly simple and should not take too long, although the center console does need to be taken apart. The most common issues afflicting malfunctioning shifters are loose shifters or a loose shifter cable.
Instructions
- 1
Open the 300M's hood and disconnect the battery with a socket wrench.
2Rotate the shifter knob counterclockwise to remove it. Uninstall the two screws from the outer cover of the center console with a Phillips screwdriver. Pry off the cover from the center console with a flat-head screwdriver.
3Remove the four bolts securing the center console body to the 300M with a socket wrench.
4Uninstall the two securing screws holding the console to the central dashboard panel.
5Disconnect the wiring connectors from the rear of the console. Lift the center console off of the shifter. At this point, you can remove the bolts securing the shifter to the vehicle and then pull the shifter off of the 300M.
