How to Refill the Radiator in a V6 Malibu

Once you've flushed the radiator on your V6 Malibu you will need to refill the radiator a mixture of antifreeze and distilled water before you can drive the vehicle again. Although this process is not too difficult there are a few items you need to keep in mind in order to fill the radiator properly. If the correct process is not taken you will get air trapped into the system that can cause irregular heating cycles.

Instructions

    1

Remove the radiator filler cap located on the top of the radiator by pressing down on the cap and then by turning counter clockwise on the cap.

    2

Locate the radiator fluid expansion tank that is located on the passenger side of the radiator. Remove the overflow expansion tank cap by pulling upward on it. This allows air to escape from the coolant system as the fluid is being poured into the radiator.

    3

Place a funnel into the filler spout of the radiator and pour one gallon of Dex-Cool antifreeze into the funnel. Place a gallon of distilled water into the funnel and then place the third gallon of Dex-Cool antifreeze into the funnel. Allow all of the fluid to drain into the radiator.

    4

Start the engine and let the coolant run through the engine for two minutes. This will lower the level of fluid in the radiator and remove any excess air from the coolant system.

    5

Top the radiator off with distilled water. One gallon should suffice however, part of a third gallon of water may be needed.

    6

Place the radiator filler cap back onto the radiator and lock it into place by pushing down on it and then by turning it clockwise. Place the cap back on the radiator expansion tank.
