How to Install Driver's Side Windows in a 1999 Chevy Blazer

With tools and the right replacement parts you can install a driver's side window in your Chevy Blazer. Though there are a few different models and body styles, such as two- and four-door, the procedure is the same. If you have basic auto repair knowledge, the proper tools, a comfortable working space and the appropriate parts, you will have the new windows installed within a few hours.

Instructions

Front Window Installation

    1

Lower the new glass into the door completely from the outside.

    2

Open the door. Use the Phillips-head screwdriver to loosen the door panel screw at the handle. Retain the screw for re-installation later. Pry the bolt cover off the door pull handle and remove the bolt with a ratchet.

    3

Pry the power window switch module from the door panel with a flat-head screwdriver. Disconnect the power window switch module prior to removing it.

    4

Use both hands to lift the door panel and rotate it away from the door. Inspect all exposed retaining clips. Remove and replace retaining clips that were damaged during removal of the panel.

    5

Peel back the water shield slowly from the bottom up. Temporarily hold it in place with tape to prevent damage. Apply vertical pressure to detach the window weatherstripping from the door exterior.

    6

Tilt the new glass toward the rear and attach the sash roller. Gently push the glass in.

    7

Attach the new glass to the regulator by bending the sash channel back, then tilting it into the rear regulator roller.

    8

Re-clip the exterior weatherstripping. Attach the front glass run-channel to the door with the two bolts supplied.

    9

Remove the tape and position the water shield back into original position. Reattach the door controls and snap into place.

    10

Reinstall the door panel by positioning it over the retainer clips. Reinstall the screw, bolt and bolt cover.

Rear Window Installation

    11

From Step Five above, push the new rear glass into the door.

    12

Attach the new glass to the regulator by pushing and rotating it into the regulator rollers.

    13

Attach the bolts, front run-channel and stationary vent glass assemblies to the door.

    14

Remove the tape and position the water shield back into its original position.

    15

Reattach the door controls and snap them into place. Reinstall the door panel by positioning it over the retainer clips. Reinstall the screw, bolt and bolt cover.
