The Chevrolet Blazer was first introduced in 1969 as part of the K-series of Chevrolet trucks. The 1998 Chevrolet Blazer was based on the Chevrolet S-10 platform, as the full size Blazer was replaced by the Tahoe in 1995. The 1998 Blazer was available in two- and four-wheel drive models, as well as two- and four-door models. The 1998 Blazer came equipped with a 4.3-liter V-6 in all models. Worn-out hinge pins usually cause doors to sag and not shut properly.
Instructions
- 1
Park the Blazer on a level surface. This project will not work if you park the truck on a slope or an uneven surface.
2Open the door on which you are going to replace the door pins. Set the plank of wood on top of the jack head. Raise the jack to the bottom of the door with the wood in between the jack and the door. Do not lift up on the door.
3Remove the upper door hinge pin, using a hammer and a metal punch rod. Hit the hinge pin downward through the door hinge. Pull the hinge pin completely free with a pair of pliers. Wrap the pliers around the bottom head of the hinge pin, and strike the pliers with the hammer.
4Coat the new hinge pin in grease thoroughly by dipping it into the grease tub directly. Insert the pin upward into the door hinge. Use the jack to raise and align the door for the new hinge pin. Tap the hinge pin gently with a hammer to assist in inserting the new pin.
5Repeat Steps 2 and 3 to complete the lower hinge pin replacement. Test the alignment of the door with the jack and wood still supporting the door. This procedure will work on all of the doors of the 1998 Blazer.
