The KA24E is the engine that Nissan used in the Pathfinder from 1990 through 1995. The distributor in this engine receives and distributes electric impulses to the spark plugs in the engine. These electrical impulses help to complete the combustion process in the engine. If it is difficult to start your vehicle, or you notice that the engine shaking violently at intervals, you will need to replace it. The average mechanic can change the distributor in less than an hour with some basic tools.

Instructions

    1

Disconnect the negative cable from the battery with a wrench to loosen the nut on the terminal. Unfasten the retaining clips on the distributor cap. Make a mark on the distributor cap in relation to the engine block with a marker. Remove the distributor cap from the distributor by pulling it straight up. Lay the distributor out of the way.

    2

Remove the dust cover from the distributor. Mark the position of the distributor body in relation to the block of the KA24E engine with the marker. Unplug the wiring harness from the distributor. Remove the pinch bolt from the distributor with a wrench. Pull the distributor straight up from the engine.

    3

Install the new distributor on the engine. Compare its position according to the marks you made with the old distributor and line it up the same way. Place the dust cover on the distributor. Plug the wiring harness into the connector. Install the distributor cap and line up the marks. Lock the retaining clips by snapping them onto the distributor.

    4

Connect the negative cable to the battery. Tighten the terminal nut with a wrench. Start the vehicle to test the new distributor.
