Mitsubishi has produced the Galant since 1969. Exported worldwide, the Galant was imported into the United States in 1971 and sold by Chrysler as the Dodge Colt. The 2001 Galant is a member of the eighth generation of Galants, which was produced from 1999 to 2004. The blower fan on the 2001 Galant is easier to replace than the blower fan on many other vehicles. Best of all, you only need two tools to do it.
Instructions
- 1
Park the Galant on a level surface and set the parking brake.
2Move to the passenger compartment. Look at the lower dash panel. You will see a bulge in it to the right rear of the panel. The fan and motor are behind this panel. Look at the clips that hold in the lower dash panel. They have a small pin in the center. Use the tip of a Phillips screwdriver to push in the pin about 1/16 inch. This will unlock the clip. Pull out the clip There are two clips at the front of the panel and two at the rear. Remove the panel. You can now see the fan motor.
3Disconnect the electrical connector from the motor. You will see it on the right side of the motor. Remove the three bolts that hold the motor onto the housing, with a ratchet and socket. Lower the motor from the housing and remove it.
4Remove the fan from the motor by using an Allen key to loosen the set screw in the end of the fan. Pull the fan from the motor shaft. Give the shaft a spin to make sure it is not bent. If it is, you should replace the motor.
5Push a new fan onto the motor shaft. Install and tighten the set screw. Slide the fan into its housing, install and tighten the screws. Plug in the electrical connector. Install the lower panel and install the clips by pushing the pin into the clip so it is sticking out of the clip. Seat the clip in the panel and push in the pin to lock it.
