The third-generation Chevrolet Camaro was manufactured by General Motors from 1982 to 1992. Although the installation procedure is the same for all third-generation Camaros, the 1982-1984 models use different clusters than the 1985-1989 models, which in turn use different clusters than the 1990-1992 models. The 1985 model introduced a digital speedometer and a tachometer that read like a bar graph. The 1990 model kept the gauges the same, but the shape of the cluster was altered to a half-moon shape. If you need to install a new cluster on your Camaro, you can do so with only a few tools. The installation procedure should only take you 20 minutes or so to complete.

Instructions

    1

Lift up the Camaro's hood. Disconnect the battery with a socket wrench by removing the black negative terminal from the battery, then removing the positive terminal.

    2

Remove the three Phillips screws from the upper portion of the dash panel above the steering wheel. Remove the dash panel.

    3

Remove the four Phillips screws holding the Camaro's cluster in place. Disconnect the wiring connector from the rear of the cluster by squeezing in the plastic tabs of the connector and pulling it off of the cluster. Remove the cluster from the Camaro.

    4

Place a replacement cluster into the Camaro. Reattach the wiring connector.

    5

Reinstall the four cluster screws and reattach the dash panel and its three screws. Reconnect the Camaro's battery by reattaching the positive terminal, then the negative terminal, and then close the hood.
