In 1962, Chevrolet changed the name of their consumer pickups to bear a "C" or "K," depending if the truck was two- or four-wheel drive. In 1999, Chevrolet again changed the full-sized pickup's name to Silverado. The Silverado retained the C- and K-series' rugged looks, but added in slightly rounder body lines. Part of the rugged look of the 2000 Silverado was a chrome-colored, metal bumper. The license plate light mounts to the rear bumper; you must crawl under the truck to replace the bulb.

Instructions

    1

Raise the rear of the Silverado, using a floor jack, and slide jack stands under the truck's frame rails. Lower the Silverado onto the stands.

    2

Crawl under the truck -- to the left or right of the license plate, depending on which bulb you are replacing -- and locate the license plate socket plugging into the rear of the bumper. Twist the socket a quarter-turn counterclockwise to unlock it and pull the socket from the bumper.

    3

Pull the burned-out bulb from the license plate light socket, using a slight wiggling motion. Grab a new Style 194 light bulb, with a clean, lint-free cloth, and press the bulb into the socket. The cloth prevents the oils on your hands from contacting the bulb and causing premature bulb failure.

    4

Insert the socket and new bulb into the bumper and twist the socket clockwise to lock it into place.

    5

Raise the Silverado from the jack stands, using a floor jack, and pull the stands from under the truck. Lower the Chevrolet to the ground.
