The car's a/c clutch is an electromagnetic clutch that is used to engage or disengage the pulley for the a/c compressor. The a/c magnetic clutch keeps the coolant working and the air cool. There may be occasions where the a/c clutch starts rattling or emits a squeaking noise. The a/c clutch may also be worn out. If there is rattling, squeaking or issues with the air temperature, the a/c magnetic clutch should be replaced to avoid further issues.

Instructions

    1

Open the hood of the car. Pull the negative cable out of the car battery's negative cable terminal.

    2

Use the clutch plate puller to loosen the outer bolt of the clutch plate. The clutch plate is a heavy steel plate located at the back end of the car's crankshaft.

    3

Hit the edge of the clutch plate with a mallet to loosen it, then pull it out.

    4

Use the snap ring pliers to remove the snap ring connected to the clutch pulley. Pull the pulley up and out and remove the wire harness screw with the screwdriver. Pull the snap ring up and out from the coil.

    5

Pull the coil assembly up and out from the compressor. Hold the magnetic a/c clutch and pull it out of the car. Clean the shaft with a damp cloth before installing the new magnetic a/c clutch.

    6

Place the new pulley in the location of the old pulley and place the new snap ring on. Make sure the beveled edge faces outwards.

    7

Place a spacer on the compression shaft and insert the new magnetic a/c clutch. Fasten the bolt with the wrench securely.
