In 1986, Ford released the Taurus, which revitalized the then struggling automaker. The 2003 Taurus came standard with a 3.0-liter, OHV V-6 engine that generated 155 horsepower. The 2004 Taurus also came standard with air conditioning. A blower motor and fan pushed the cooled or heated air throughout the Taurus and a relay regulated the flow of electricity to the blower motor. When this relay fails, the blower motor not turn on. Locating and replacing this relay requires one tool and is fairly easy, once you know where to look.
Instructions
- 1
Adjust the driver's seat as far back as it will go. Look under the driver's side of the dashboard with a flashlight and locate the central junction box -- the large, plastic box near the firewall.
2Open the central junction block by pressing the locking tabs and pulling the lid downward, exposing the fuses and relays in the box.
3Locate the blower motor relay, the second relay from the top of the junction box, on the driver's side (see resources for diagram).
4Grab the blower motor relay and pull it from the central junction box with a slight wiggling motion. Line the blades on the base of the new blower motor relay up with the slots where the old relay was, and press the relay into the junction box.
5Set the lid back on the central junction box and press it until the tabs snap into place.
