The door panels in a 1992 Honda Accord hold a speaker, door handle, door lock, window control and a storage pocket near the bottom of the door. Remove the door panel to install aftermarket speakers or automatic door lock systems. The panel is simple to take off compared to most other car panels. Besides a few hidden screws, the removal of the panel is straightforward and can be removed and installed in less than one hour.

Instructions

Door Panel Removal

    1

Open the door as wide as possible and roll the window down. Remove the Phillips screws from the door panel. Note that most of these screws are not in plain view. There are three screws around the speaker, two screws under the pocket along the bottom of the door, two on the armrest and one near the front of the panel closest to the dash. Pull off the speaker cover and lower pocket.

    2

Use a flat-head screwdriver to pop out the plastic trim from around the door lock at the top of the door, from the door handle and from around the window and door lock controls located on the armrest. Unplug the wiring connectors from behind the controls and pull the control panel out.

    3

Pry the door panel off the door by inserting the trim panel removal tool between the panel and the door at the bottom. There are five hidden clips holding the panel to the door along the bottom edge of the panel. Use the trim removal tool to pry the panel up to pop out the clips.

    4

Lift the door panel straight up and then pull the bottom of the panel away from the door to "unhinge" it from the top of the door. Lean the top of the panel away from the door until you see behind it from above.

    5

Release the red plastic tab on the backside of the door handle using a Phillips screwdriver to pry it from the metal rod. Unplug the wiring to the speaker near the bottom of the door. Pull the door handle away from the door.

Door Panel Installation

    6

Hold the panel up near the door to connect the accessories. Plug the speaker wire to the speaker in the new panel; connect the wiring for the door locks and window controls to the back of the control panel. Connect the door handle by clipping the red plastic tab to the backside of the door handle by pushing the tab onto the metal rod.

    7

Lift the panel slightly to hang it along the top of the door and then push it into place on the door. Push along the edges so that the plastic clips reinsert and snap back into the holes in the door.

    8

Replace all of the screws removed from the door panel. Replace the speaker cover and the lower pocket on the door panel.
