Chipped paint may seem like a minor blemish on your cars body, but leave that chipped paint exposed to the elements and youll be dealing with rust in a short time. Moisture reaches bare metal through even the tiniest chips in the paint, creating rust underneath the paint. The paint chip can crack the surrounding paint and cause the chip to become larger. Treat chipped paint on a vehicle so it wont spread. This process takes just under an hour.
Instructions
- 1
Wash the vehicle with car soap and a sponge to remove all dirt, grime and debris from the surface.
2Dry the car with a chamois or towel, concentrating on the chipped paint. There must be no moisture at all on the surface when you apply the paint.
3Apply a thin coat of clear coat or color-matched paint to the chipped areas. Use a small hobby paintbrush for most average-size chips. Use a toothpick for very small chips. Spread the paint across the chipped area and let it dry for 30 minutes.
4Add a second, third and fourth thin coat of paint to each chipped area, waiting 30 minutes between each coat. Let the final coat dry for two hours before handling it.
