Small scratches on the surface of your car don't reach through to the base color coat or the metal of the car, but they do scratch the surface of the clear coat. Small scratches in the clear coat look gray or white and can barely be felt when you run your hand over them. Since clear coat scratches don't harm the color coat, you can easily remove them without extensive work.

Instructions

    1

Park the car in the shade, so that the sun doesn't heat the surface. Wash the car with car soap and a soft sponge. Rinse the surface clean to remove all of the dirt particles. Rinse the car again and let it dry.

    2

Pour a small amount of liquid scratch remover -- the size of a quarter -- onto a clean cotton towel. Rub the liquid onto the surface, over the scratch. Alternate directions and rub along and across the scratch.

    3

Rub the scratches until you can't see them anymore. Buff the area with a clean cotton towel to bring the shine back to the surface.
