On a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire GT, the radiator is cooled by an electric fan that is mounted directly to the radiator. Sometimes the motor for this fan goes out, and without it functioning properly, the fan can't cool the radiator coolant, putting you at risk of overheating the engine. To install a new cooling fan, the first thing you have to do is remove the old one.

Open the hood and locate the engine cooling fan on the backside of the radiator, between the radiator and the engine. Disconnect the electrical connection on the fan using your hands.
2Unbolt the radiator cooling fan from the radiator using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Then loosely thread one of the bottom bolts back in place just to keep the fan steady.
3Lift up the front of the Sunfire GT using the jack, setting the front end on the jack stands. Then unthread the bolt on the fan using your hands. Lower the fan out from the bottom of the engine compartment and away from the vehicle.
