1983 was the last year Honda offered the Goldwing GL1100, but will also be remembered as the year Honda gave almost every option possible, minus the kitchen sink and refrigerator, of course. Your Goldwing may be equipped with a CB radio, adjustable suspension with a built in compressor and even premium 11-spoke alloy wheels. Despite the various options available at the time of purchase, the one thing every GL1100 came with was a tape deck radio mounted above the gauges. Over time the speakers for the radio are bound to fail, especially if exposed to wet riding or excessive volume on the highway.

Instructions

    1

Park your motorcycle on a flat surface in suitable place to work away from the elements. Remove the two screws securing each front turn signal to the fairing with a screwdriver. Carefully remove the turn signal housing from the fairing and support it with mechanics wire from the handlebar so that they do not hang from their wires.

    2

Look through the turn signal mounting holes to find four wing-nuts on each side. Remove the wing nuts one at a time, be careful not to drop them. Loosen the wing-nuts with pliers first, if necessary. Firmly grab the speaker case and pull it away from the fairing. Make a note of which speaker wire is positive and which speaker wire is negative, and then disconnect them from the speaker.

    3

Remove the screws securing the speaker mounting plate to the speaker. Remove the speaker mounting plate from the speaker and speaker grille. Remove the speaker. Position a new 4-inch speaker into the speaker grille and install the mounting plate. Tighten the plate screws with a screw driver.

    4

Connect the positive and negative speaker wires to their respective connections on the speaker. Line up the four stud holes with the holes in the fairing and slide the assembly into place. Install the four wing-nuts one at a time through the turn signal hole until tight.

    5

Support the turn signal assembly by hand and remove the mechanics wire. Push the turn signal wires into the fairing and set the turn signal lamp into place. Install the two mounting screws and tighten them with a screwdriver.
