The distributor of your Chevrolet G20 van is essential for starting the vehicle, as it routes the high-voltage spark that initially comes from the battery. If the distributor begins to malfunction, you will need to remove it in order to repair or replace it. Removing the distributor from your G20 van is very simple and should not take more than half an hour or so, but you will need to disconnect the battery from the vehicle in order to prevent any accidental shocks.
Instructions
- 1
Lift up the hood of the van and disconnect the battery's negative cable with a socket wrench.
2Use tape and marker to label all of the spark plug wires so that you can easily reattach them to the distributor. Unplug all of the spark plug wires by pulling them off.
3Disconnect the electrical wiring connector from the base of the distributor.
4Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the distributor cap screws and remove the distributor cap.
5Use a marker to mark the spot where the rotor-to-housing and housing-to-engine block positions are on the distributor so that you can easily reinstall it, if necessary.
6Remove the hold-down bolt and clamp from the distributor. Lift the distributor out of the engine. Installation of the distributor is the reversal of the removal process.
