Produced since the year 2000 by Kia Motors, the Kia Optima comes equipped with a stock stereo unit that includes an auxiliary connection that allows you to plug your MP3 player or other such device. If you wish to repair your stock radio or replace it with a newer unit, you will need to remove it from the Optima. Replacing the stereo is a straightforward process that should only take 20 minutes to complete. Although not necessary for operating your Optima, a radio makes driving a more enjoyable experience.

Instructions

    1

Open the Optima's hood and remove the negative terminal from the battery using a socket wrench.

    2

Open the passenger's-side door and get into the Optima. Pry off the dash trim using a flat-head screwdriver.

    3

Remove the two screws from the dash trim with a Phillips screwdriver and pull the dash trim off the vehicle. Remove the four screws from the stereo itself using a Phillips screwdriver.

    4

Pull the stereo out and unplug its electrical wiring connector. Remove it from the vehicle. Place a new stereo into the vehicle and reattach the electrical wiring connector.

    5

Reattach the screws and the dash trim. Reconnect the battery and close the hood.
