If the window regulator on your 1997-2005 Buick vehicle is malfunctioning, you will be unable to operate your Buick's power windows. Thankfully, repairing the regulator is fairly simple because the two most common issues with faulty regulators are blown fuses and burned out motors. Replacing the faulty device will repair the window regulator, and it's a fairly simple procedure, although it will take longer to replace the motor than to replace the fuse.

Instructions

Replace the Regulator

    1

Open the Buick's hood and remove the negative battery cable with a socket wrench.

    2

Remove the eight clips from the door with the faulty regulator. The clips are small and made of black plastic and can be popped out with a flat-head screwdriver.

    3

Pry off the armrest cover from the door. Remove the door handle by unfastening its screw with a Phillips-head screwdriver.

    4

Pull the interior door panel off. Locate the window regulator at the center of the door.

    5

Remove the two screws securing the motor to the regulator. Disconnect its electrical connector and pull it off the regulator. Attach the new motor to the regulator, making sure it clicks into place. Reattach the electrical connector and the two screws.

    6

Reattach the door panel, the door handle and the armrest cover. Reinstall all eight clips and reconnect the battery cable of the Buick.

Replace the Fuse

    7

Open the hood. Remove the cover from the fuse block in the upper-right corner of the engine compartment.

    8

Remove the fuse labeled "Power Windows" in slot 57.

    9

Install a replacement 10A fuse and reattach the fuse block cover. Close the hood.
