The EGR port of your 98B Honda Accord can be found at the rear portion of the engine compartment. Also known as the exhaust gas recirculation port, the EGR helps reduce your vehicle's nitrous oxide output. Cleaning your EGR port will help your Accord pass an emissions test. To clean the port, you will need a few tools, but it should not take you more than half an hour to clean the EGR port.

Instructions

    1

Pull the hood-release lever of your Accord and lift up the hood. Put on the gloves. Disconnect the Accord's battery with a socket wrench.

    2

Use a socket wrench to disconnect the connector plug from the EGR valve.

    3

Remove the screws from the ignition coil with a Phillips screwdriver and remove the ignition coil. Although this is not necessary for cleaning the EGR port, it will give you more space to work.

    4

Remove the two bolts from the EGR valve with a socket wrench. Spray the carburetor cleaner all over the valve and try to get as much of the dirt and debris off of the valve.

    5

Spray the cleaner in all of the EGR's ports. Wipe the dirt and debris out with a towel. Once you are comfortable with the EGR ports, reattach the EGR valve and the ignition coil.

    6

Reconnect the Accord's battery. Close the Accord's hood.
