The early-1990s really began the Camaros return to greatness, as its top level V-8 engines began creeping closer to returning to the 300-horsepower mark, a feat it hadnt achieved since 1971. The 1993 Camaros 5.7-liter V-8 cranked out 275 horsepower, the best output since that 1971 model year. Even the standard 3.4-liter V-6 in the Camaro was no slouch at 160 horsepower. Replacing the spark plug wires on the standard 3.4-liter engine is a fairly straightforward task, but you must remove and replace the wires one by one to prevent mixing up the firing order.

Instructions

    1

Trace one spark plug wire from the ignition coil on the front, drivers side of the engine toward the side of the engine until you reach the thick rubber boot that connects the wire to the spark plug.

    2

Grab the spark plug boot and pull it away from the spark plug with a twisting motion.

    3

Trace the spark plug wire back toward the ignition coil, unfastening it from the routing clips as you and pulling it from any conduit, as needed, until you reach the rubber boot connecting the wire to the ignition coil.

    4

Grasp the boot and pull it from the coil with a slight twisting motion to remove it. Pull the spark plug wire from the engine compartment.

    5

Lay the removed wire on a flat surface and select a wire from the new spark plug wire set that matches the length of the removed wire.

    6

Apply a dab of dielectric grease inside both of the boots on the spark plug wire and spread the grease around the inside of the boot with a small flat-head screwdriver.

    7

Align one boot with the vacant terminal on the top of the ignition coil and press it downward until it clicks into place.

    8

Route the wire toward the exposed spark plug in the same path that the original was routed, pressing it into any routing clips along the way. Insert the new spark plug wire into the conduit near the top of the engine.

    9

Line up the boot on the end of the spark plug wire with the top of the exposed spark plug and press it onto the wire until you feel it click into place.

    10

Repeat Steps 1 through 9 to replace the remaining five spark plug wires.
